The BUYING CLUB concept came about as a result of a number of community forums  and discussions on Gabriola Island, British Columbia and elsewhere that repeatedly identified concerns relating to global warming and food security and the lack of creative solutions.

SLO-Foods was launched  early spring of 2007  as an effort to bring together a large enough group of eaters who recognize that, collectively supporting local agriculture, is a form of enlightened self interest.  We are simply a group of people who believe that intentionally buying Seasonal, Local, and Organic as much as possible is a primary step in assisting in the rebuilding of our foodshed and thus local food security.

One of our goals is to actively create shorter, transparent supply lines. We are biased toward organic but not to the exclusion of other forms of sustainable agriculture and will include as much information as possible to aid in your decision making.

Our current catalogue offers substantial savings and we encourage you to redirect this saving to supporting our local producers and growers.

At this time the logistics of forming delivery partnerships with our local producers is uncertain so in the meantime they will be listed in the catalogue under “Local Farm Direct”.   As we progress we will be adding to both the catalogue and developing delivery arrangements direct from farms where possible.
